Chapter 219 The Hero (Part 2)
Wei Hongsi's invitation to Shen Qing to join the development of the "Other Shore" system was not a spur-of-the-moment decision, but rather a plan they had long ago. However, the timing wasn't right, and there wasn't a suitable candidate, so they hadn't proceeded with it yet.
The successful verification of brainwave signal interaction is driven by the need to crack the "circuit breaker mechanism," but it is also a breakthrough for the "Other Shore" system. With this foundation, subsequent work can now be put on the agenda.
Shen Qing had already participated in some research work and was quite familiar with everyone. Her professionalism and attitude were beyond reproach, making her a very suitable candidate.
Wei Hongsi and Shen Qing chatted all the way, and before they knew it, they arrived at the neighborhood where Jiang Haiyang lived.
As they approached the gate, Shen Qing asked, "Should we buy some fruit to take upstairs?"
Wei Hongsi parked the car on the side of the road and asked her, "What do you want to eat?"
"I'm fine with anything, it's up to you."
"Then you stay in the car and don't get out. I'll go buy it—"
Shen Qing quickly said, "You're not allowed to buy oranges!"
Wei Hongsi paused for a moment, then laughed and said, "I wasn't planning on buying oranges."
He got out of the car, went to a nearby fruit shop and bought some cherries, grapes, and a watermelon. He returned to the car, put them on the back seat, and then drove into the residential area.
Jiang Haiyang's family is not from Yuecheng. After he started his postgraduate studies, he decided to develop his career in Yuecheng, and his parents bought him an apartment in this neighborhood. Because it is close to the school, people come here often, and it has almost become their regular hangout.
Wei Hongsi parked his car downstairs, picked up the fruit from the back seat, and went upstairs with Shen Qing, knocking on Jiang Haiyang's door.
A short while later, the door opened, and Jiang Haiyang stood to the side of the door and said, "Big star, welcome back to my humble abode."
"I'm sorry to bother you." Shen Qing smiled and cupped her hands in greeting.
After entering the house, Wei Hongsi took the fruit and went straight to the kitchen to wash the cherries and grapes.
Shen Qing followed him into the kitchen and greeted Feng Weixu. Seeing that four kinds of vegetables had already been chopped, and Feng Weixu was still preparing a few more, she asked, "Will I have a chance to shine today?"
"Of course!" Feng Weixu said. "We have prepared all three dishes you reported last time. You can give it your all."
"Really?" Shen Qing smiled and said, "I thought you were worried that my cooking skills weren't good enough and that you might end up eating terrible food."
""
"No, not at all," Jiang Haiyang said. "Last time was your first visit, so how could we let you cook right away? As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. If you want to show off your cooking skills this time, we won't stop you."
Shen Qing looked at Wei Hongsi: "Are you really not worried that my cooking won't taste good?"
"Of course not," Wei Hongsi said.
"Why?" Shen Qing couldn't help but ask curiously, "Is it because of the three dishes I named?"
Wei Hongsi said, "That's only part of the reason. The main reason is that you have a very strong cognitive ability."
"Why is that?" Shen Qing became even more curious. "Is there a connection between cognitive ability and cooking?"
"Of course it's related," Jiang Haiyang said. "People with strong cognitive abilities generally won't make terrible dishes unless it's intentional. It's certainly difficult to reach the level of a master chef when it comes to cooking, but it's not difficult at all to make a few dishes that are appetizing."
Feng Weixu said, "Yes, unless it was intentional."
Wei Hongsi put the washed cherries on a plate and presented it to Shen Qing.
Shen Qing pinched the cherry stem, picked up two cherries, put them in her mouth, and nodded silently. Jiang Haiyang's words made a lot of sense. Cooking home-style dishes is indeed not difficult. It's nothing more than ingredients, cooking time, and seasonings. As long as you get the balance right, the dishes you cook won't be too bad.
Wei Hongsi handed the cherries to Jiang Haiyang, then washed the grapes and placed them on the living room table.
There were only four of them for dinner, and they made a total of six dishes, with each person making at least one. Shen Qing made two dishes: scrambled eggs with tomatoes and stir-fried greens. They were both very simple home-style dishes, and because they cooked them often, they had a good grasp of the heat and seasonings, so the taste was naturally quite good.
During the meal, Wei Hongsi mentioned inviting Shen Qing to participate in the development of the "Other Shore" system, and Feng Weixu and Jiang Haiyang both expressed their welcome.
After chatting about this topic for a while, Feng Weixu said, "Shen Qing, I've noticed that your math foundation is quite good. Do you have math courses in university?"
Shen Qing said, "Yes, I've taken some math courses because I thought they might be useful for composing. Some were simple topics like proportions and intervals, symmetry and transformations, while others were more complex, such as Fourier analysis, fractals and self-similarity. It's definitely very different from your systematic study of math."
"That's already amazing," Feng Weixu exclaimed. "I thought art students didn't study these kinds of things."
Shen Qing smiled and said, "What you think is basically correct. Those are elective courses, after all, and very few people study them."
Jiang Haiyang asked, "So you've loved music since you were little, right?"
"Yes," Shen Qing nodded. "When I was very young, I loved listening to classical music. The first time I played the piano, I knew I wanted to become a musician."
Feng Weixu asked, "How old were you when you first played the piano?"
Shen Qing said, "Probably four years old."
Jiang Haiyang exclaimed, "Wow, you're a musical prodigy!"
Shen Qing said, "No, not really. Many people start learning piano at the age of four or five."
Wei Hongsi asked, "When you were little, did you learn the piano at home or outside?"
Shen Qing said, "It should be considered a music school that specializes in teaching children. I studied there for a while, but later I started having private tutors come to my home to teach me."
Were there many children around when you were at music school?
"There were about twenty or thirty people, but I can't remember the exact number."
"At what age did you start hiring tutors to come to your home?"
"I think I was five years old. I remember studying at that music school for one semester."
"How long did the private tutor who came to your home teach you afterwards?"
"It should have been seven years, until I graduated from elementary school."
"Oh." Wei Hongsi nodded. He asked these questions because he was thinking about his own experiences. Shen Qing was someone the members of the Guiding Light Society were focusing on in Yuecheng. Could this cause have been planted in her childhood?
Although Shen Qing didn't know why Wei Hongsi asked such detailed questions, she still answered them one by one.
Jiang Haiyang couldn't help but look at Shen Qing, then at Wei Hongsi and asked, "Are you checking Shen Qing's kindergarten resume?"
'
Wei Hongsi smiled and said, "I also learned to play the piano when I was a child, and I wanted to use Shen Qing as a reference to compare and see how big the difference is."
