Chapter 20: Unable to Escape
Chapter 20: Unable to Escape
Boom!
The truck successfully crashed through the stone sculpture blocking its path, but lost control and suddenly veered towards the houses on the side of the road.
"What's going on? Ouch!"
The violent impact slammed everyone inside the carriage against the wall, leaving them with head injuries and bleeding profusely.
"Something's happened! It must be that ghost! Get out of here!"
If the truck suddenly goes out of control, it must be because the driver made a mistake. In this narrow compartment, if they are found by a vengeful ghost, they will have nowhere to hide and will surely die.
Although the soldiers were dizzy from the impact, they didn't care about anything else when faced with the threat of death. They opened the carriages and rushed out, rushing into the nearby alleys.
They all knew the killing patterns of vengeful ghosts and were well aware that in such open areas with wide visibility, encountering a vengeful ghost would have unimaginable consequences. The winding alleys, on the other hand, could effectively block their view and perhaps help them avoid the vengeful ghost's killing patterns.
"Stop!"
Suddenly, one of the soldiers at the front stopped and stopped the others from advancing.
Only then did everyone realize something was wrong. They saw another intersection ahead, with a totaled truck parked beside it.
They've actually come all the way back! They remember very clearly that they didn't go back the way they came, so how did they end up back here?
The soldier at the front decisively turned and ran into another alley, and the others quickly followed.
But as they passed a window, they suddenly felt a chill, as if they were being watched by something terrifying. Instantly, they instinctively wanted to see what was watching them.
"Close your eyes and don't look!"
Su Qin, who was running at the back, quickly stopped them. These guys were really reckless. They knew the killing patterns of the vengeful ghosts, yet they still dared to look around recklessly.
Suddenly, everyone was startled and quickly closed their eyes, their hearts pounding with anxiety, realizing they had almost killed themselves.
A window of a house to their left was open, and a stone statue stood beside the window. The statue's head was slowly turning, and a hideous face was on the back of its head, its eyes staring intently at the people outside the window.
The people outside the window immediately closed their eyes and stumbled forward.
Thump~ Thump~
The group of people with their eyes closed didn't run more than a few steps before they either fell or crashed into the wall. Several of them never got up again, their bodies quickly turning into stone statues. Su Qin, who was standing at the back, felt a chill run down his spine.
Closing your eyes didn't help. Those who had seen the ghost face died, even though they had closed their eyes and didn't see it a second time. So where did things go wrong?
Does this mean that a vengeful ghost only needs to appear, and doesn't need to be seen to die?
Turning your head, making a face, staring into someone's eyes—which one is the main point?
Could it be the eyes?
The thought sent chills down Su Qin's spine; it was simply too terrifying.
Turning into stone the moment someone is seen by a vengeful ghost? How can this even be played? There's no way to avoid it!
Su Qin felt incredibly fortunate. He was running at the very back, in the blind spot of the window, so he neither saw the ghost's face nor was he seen by it.
If he were to trigger the vengeful spirit's killing pattern, he would have no choice but to use the spirit's supernatural abilities, which was the last thing he wanted to happen.
His control over the vengeful spirit is different from others. The spirit seems to be in his mind, and whenever he uses supernatural powers, he gets a splitting headache. Last time in the laboratory, it only took a few seconds, but he was in unbearable pain.
He was certain that once he used the vengeful spirit, he would die much faster than other ghost tamers. He could still survive if his other body parts were corrupted by the vengeful spirit, but could he live if his brain was damaged?
Once the brain is corrupted, it will inevitably lose control earlier than other ghost controllers. Perhaps it doesn't even need to be corrupted; just being knocked unconscious by pain will cause the vengeful ghost to lose control. At that point, it will no longer be a human controlling a ghost, but a ghost controlling a human.
But this gargoyle is too terrifying; without using supernatural methods, it has no chance of survival.
We must seize the opportunity to suppress this ghost instantly before it wipes out all these bait cannon fodder, otherwise no one will survive.
This ghost has changed. The inescapable crossroads clearly indicate that its ghostly power has increased, and its mobility has also improved. It's likely that the ghostly chains are no longer suppressing it. If there are other unknown killing patterns or abilities that have been unleashed, then it's truly doomed.
Unfortunately, the survivors had all been running around with their eyes closed, and now they've all scattered. Su Qin only has two teammates left; the others have disappeared.
At this moment, four or five soldiers ran frantically through the alley with their eyes closed for a while before daring to open them. They all felt a heavy weight in their hearts.
Although they had their eyes closed, they still heard the sounds of several comrades falling one after another.
Those comrades were probably doomed. While feeling panicked, they were also relieved that they had closed their eyes in time and hadn't seen the ghostly face. Otherwise, they wouldn't have escaped either.
Thump thump~ thump thump...
Suddenly, a heavy sound came from around the corner of the alley, which immediately alerted the soldiers.
What was that sound?
The soldiers at the forefront stopped and dared not advance rashly.
The soldier behind him thought carefully for a moment and analyzed:
"It sounds like a hammer hitting the ground. It shouldn't be a ghost. From the beginning until now, the ghost seems to only be able to move its head. I haven't seen it make any other movements. It's unlikely that this sound is made by a ghost."
Perhaps other people who have gotten separated are using this method to gather others together.
His analysis does make some sense. In this godforsaken place where communication is disrupted, people who want to reunite with their lost loved ones do indeed have to resort to other methods.
"Go check it out! If the situation is not good, evacuate immediately!"
The lead soldier walked forward cautiously, and the others immediately followed.
The sound was getting closer and closer; they would likely meet at the corner of the alley. Their hearts were pounding, and they were extremely nervous.
As soon as they reached the corner, everyone froze on the spot, and then they all turned and ran back without hesitation.
Because what was there wasn't a human being at all; there was a stone statue at the corner, and the image of that statue was that of the comrade who had died outside that window earlier.
It was slowly walking towards them, and its head was turned towards them.
A ghostly face was growing on the back of its head, and on that eerie and ferocious face, a pair of stone eyes were glaring fiercely at them.
They ran right into the ghost.
The soldiers who were fleeing in panic felt a chill in their hearts.
We're doomed. We've all seen the ghost's face. If that ghost reappears, we're all doomed.
"Don't panic! Find a secluded place to hide. As long as that ghost doesn't reappear, we still have a chance to survive!"
The lead soldier ran at the very back, reminding his comrades as he ran.
This was deduced based on previously obtained information, and it was highly probable, yet he was unaware of it.
The ghost behind him didn't stop moving; its head continued to turn, rotating 360 degrees, glaring fiercely at the fleeing soldiers.
Several soldiers ran to a house, kicked open the wooden door, and prepared to go inside to take shelter.
But before they could even get into the room to hide, they all stood frozen in terror, unable to move.
Their bodies were rapidly petrifying, and within seconds, they all lost their lives and became stone statues.
Su Qin and the other two were unaware of what was happening here, and even less aware that the ghost had undergone a new change and would die without needing to meet it a second time.
They were walking cautiously through the alley; they were no longer running blindly like before.
Because they discovered that no matter which way they went, the end of the road was always that crossroads, which was very strange, and it seemed that they could not escape this strange crossroads.
