Chapter 313 South District Market
Chapter 313 South District Market
Xu Xiaoyan took the box and found that it was a little heavier than she had imagined.
She carried it for a couple of steps and felt it was okay, not too heavy. The handle design was very reasonable, it didn't hurt her hand, and the weight was evenly distributed, so it wouldn't tip over.
"That's good," she said. "It's fine now." The waiter smiled and led her to the cashier.
The cashier is at the other end of the store. It's an L-shaped table with several cash registers and tablets on it.
A cashier was sitting behind the table. He was a young man wearing glasses and looked very polite.
The waiter placed the box and a tablet on the cashier's counter and said to the young man, "A set of precision crossbows, with a box of arrows, worth 5,000 points."
The young man nodded, tapped a few times on the tablet, and then turned the screen towards Xu Xiaoyan.
"Please confirm," he said. "Product name: Delivery robot, quantity: 1, unit price: 5000 points."
Xu Xiaoyan leaned over for a look and found it strange that it didn't say "Precision Aiming Crossbow Set" but "Delivery Robot".
She couldn't help but look up at the cashier.
"This..." She pointed at the screen, puzzled, and asked, "How does it say 'delivery robot'?"
The cashier smiled, didn't say anything, and just glanced to the side.
Xu Xiaoyan followed his gaze and saw the shop manager standing not far away, arms crossed, smiling at her.
"Don't mind it," he said. "The higher-ups don't allow us to manufacture and sell these things."
He paused, took a step closer to Xu Xiaoyan, and lowered his voice to say, "But we also need to make money, so you understand."
He blinked, a sly glint in his small eyes.
Xu Xiaoyan paused for a moment, then slowly nodded.
She instantly understood that there were many things that were not allowed in the dungeon, but people were still selling them.
If you can't sell it openly, sell it secretly; if you can't write it in the system, write something else.
This is what they call "when there are policies from above, there are countermeasures from below."
Who cares if someone buys a delivery robot? Who's going to check if a delivery robot is actually a delivery robot?
As long as the accounts match and no problems are found in the system, everything is fine.
She nodded.
"I understand," she said. "It's okay, this is fine."
The store manager smiled and patted Xu Xiaoyan on the shoulder. "Smart. Come back if you need anything in the future, and I'll give you a discount."
Xu Xiaoyan smiled and nodded. "Then thank you very much, boss."
She took out her phone and gestured to the cashier to pay. The cashier swiped it on the machine and then handed her a fingerprint scanner.
"Please press your fingerprint to confirm." She pressed her thumb on.
With a beep, the screen displayed "Payment successful," and the cashier returned the phone to her and handed her a receipt.
"Here is your receipt," he said.
Xu Xiaoyan folded the receipt and put it in her pocket. Then she picked up the black suitcase and nodded to the store manager and the waiter.
"Thank you for coming," the waiter said with a bow. "Take care, and welcome back next time."
Xu Xiaoyan carried her suitcase, walked through the crowd, and headed towards the parking area.
The box was a bit heavy, and she had to switch hands every few steps, but she didn't feel tired. Instead, she felt a strange sense of peace.
She walked to her truck, opened the door, and then carried the box into the truck. With a thought, the box was stored in her spatial storage.
Back in the driver's seat, Xu Xiaoyan started the truck and slowly drove away from the street where "Future Robot Company" was located.
She drove slowly through the main road, keeping an eye on pedestrians on the side of the road as she drove.
At night, there are more pedestrians in the underground city than during the day, and most of them don't pay much attention to the road. They turn or stop whenever they want, and don't care about cars at all.
She honked her horn, and the young people in front of her slowly moved aside, even turning back to glare at her.
Xu Xiaoyan ignored them and continued driving forward.
Now that she had bought the crossbow, she had to find a way to make money. After spending the five thousand points, she only had a little over five hundred points left.
She needs points to practice self-defense and pay for parking, so she needs to set up a stall quickly to earn back some of the points she's spent.
After driving for about ten minutes, she saw the sign for the South District Market in the distance.
The sign was huge, spanning the entire street, with the four characters "South District Night Market" spelled out in neon lights in red, green, and yellow, flashing on and off, making it visible from afar.
Xu Xiaoyan slowed down the car and looked inside.
Upon seeing this, she couldn't help but exclaim in amazement.
My goodness, this is huge!
At first glance, it's all densely packed stalls, stretching from the street corner to the horizon, easily several hundred meters long.
The stalls were packed tightly together, one after another, leaving only a narrow passage for people to walk through.
Various lights, white, yellow, and red, hung on the stalls, illuminating the entire street as bright as day.
The stalls sold everything—food, drinks, clothes, household items, toys, and all sorts of other random things she couldn't name.
The smoke from the grilled skewers rose up, carrying a variety of aromas that drifted far away.
The clothes sellers hung their clothes high up, all brightly colored, fluttering in the wind.
The ground was covered with stalls selling trinkets, their jingling sounds dazzling to the eye.
Xu Xiaoyan made a rough estimate—this night market area is conservatively estimated to be 5000 square meters.
She was a little excited. With such a big place and so many people, business would definitely be good. Even if the stall fee was a bit expensive, as long as the foot traffic was high, she could make it back.
She stepped on the gas, ready to drive in and find a spot.
As soon as they reached the entrance, they were stopped by a railing.
The railing, painted in red and white, stretched across the middle of the road. One end was connected to a small guard post, where a person in a gray uniform was sitting, looking down at his phone.
Xu Xiaoyan stopped the car and honked the horn.
The man looked up at her, then slowly stood up and walked to the car window.
He was a middle-aged man with a round face, thinning hair, and a somewhat tired expression.
He bent down, looked at Xu Xiaoyan inside the car, and asked, "Shall we go in and set up a stall?"
Xu Xiaoyan nodded. "Yes, it's my first time here, and I'd like to find a seat."
The person said "Oh," and then said, "Personal entry and exit are free, but vehicles will be charged extra."
He paused, then pointed into the distance:
"The nearest free parking lot is about a ten-minute drive away. Just walk that way, and you'll see a big blue sign. Would you like to park there?"
Ten minutes? Twenty minutes round trip, plus the time to walk in and out, half an hour is gone. And the parking lot is so far away, she has to carry her things for half a day, how tiring!
She thought for a moment and then asked, "I have a monthly parking fee plan for residential parking in the East District. Is that not valid here?"
Upon hearing this, the man smiled politely, showing no sign of impatience whatsoever.
