Chapter Twenty-Five: The New Neighbors of the Jike Lion Pride

The fate of hyenas driven out of their pack is rather tragic. Because hyenas are social animals, they find it difficult to hunt prey if they leave the pack.

These lone hyenas not only have difficulty catching prey on their own.

If a lone hyena falls into the hands of wild dogs, it's doomed. Wild dogs deeply hate hyenas. These two animals have no kinship whatsoever; their relationship is one of hatred.

Because this hyena pack's territory was located between Zeke and another pack of wild dogs. Nira felt that if she didn't leave quickly, life would become even more difficult with two rivals attacking her from both sides.

So, Nila decided to move to another place. They needed to rest and recuperate for a while, and once their cubs were grown, they could continue to compete with the Jike pride.

Because Nira is raising more than a dozen cubs, if they can grow up, it will greatly enhance the strength of the tribe.

Nira moved away because their strength had diminished. Another war with the wild dog packs would be too dangerous. And the wild dog packs also liked to harass the hyena packs.

In other words, Nira left in time. If the hyena leaders had seen that Nira's pack was missing several hyenas, they might have led their pack to wipe out Nira's pack.

Fortunately, Nira made a wise move, which saved her tribe.

Originally, the territory of the Jik lion pride and this pack of wild dogs did not border each other. However, after the Nira pack left, the wild dog pack expanded its territory, which then bordered the Jik lion pride.

Wild dogs are actually very afraid of lions and don't want lions as neighbors. But after the hyena pack left, the wild dog pack had no choice but to live next to the lion pride.

However, after observing the situation of the Jike pride, the pack of wild dogs became less afraid. After all, they knew that the Jike pride was not very strong, with only three adult lions, making it a relatively weak pride.

Wild dogs are quite an unusual species on the savanna. They are strictly social animals, and you could say they've taken social interaction to its extreme.

Unlike other packs that have only one leader, wild dog packs have two leaders, a male and a female, and they operate very fairly. However, in terms of real power, the female leader likely has more say. The male leader is simply a male animal with reproductive rights.

The pack of wild dogs that lives right next to the lion, Zeke, now has two leaders: a male leader and a female leader. The male leader is named Kurt, and the female leader is named Hill.

These are the two strongest wild dogs in the pack. They are the only ones in the pack with reproductive rights. The litter they are currently raising is their offspring; there are fifteen in total.

Wild dogs have a very high fertility rate, much higher than hyenas. While hyenas perform well in many ways, they are not so good at having offspring.

Hyenas not only have a relatively low birth rate, but the survival rate is also extremely low. This is because female hyenas have very specific reproductive characteristics, which makes childbirth difficult. Many female hyenas may die during their first birth due to dystocia.

This is why hyena families take such good care of their offspring. Female hyenas can travel dozens of kilometers daily from their hunting grounds to their dens to nurse their cubs.

Regardless, hyenas are less prolific than wild dogs, which results in wild dogs outnumbering hyenas.

Now, Kurt and Hill's pack of wild dogs has taken over the territory of Nila's pack of hyenas. However, the couple soon discovers that their southern neighbors are actually a pride of lions.

Although Kurt and Hill were somewhat frightened, after observing for a while, they discovered that this pride of lions wasn't very strong. With only one male lion and two females, it was a very small pride.

Not only was it very small in strength, but it was also raising nine lion cubs. This was a huge challenge for a lion pride that wasn't very strong.

When Zeke learned that its new neighbors were a pack of African wild dogs, it wasn't worried. It figured wild dogs were always the type to provoke lions. After all, wild dogs were far weaker than hyenas; how could they possibly dare to challenge a lion?
