Chapter 95 Another Kiss
Chapter 95 Another Kiss
The plan was quickly finalized. Li Ming drove Su Qian and the three wounded soldiers away first, while Wang Zhengyang and Lin Luo'er waited an hour before taking Peter along another route.
Before leaving, Victor approached Wang Zhengyang: "Natasha, is she really safe?"
"She's safe," Wang Zhengyang said. "She's in my area, protected by someone."
Viktor stared into his eyes for a few seconds, then said, "If you can get us to safety... I, Viktor Ivanov, am your life. Sergei and Maxim too. As for Peter... if he survives, he will too."
This is a soldier's oath, simple, yet weighty.
Wang Zhengyang nodded: "Survive first. We'll talk about other things later."
He then turned to Su Qian: "Dr. Su, I'm leaving the medical pod to you. I'll have Li Ming bring you the money tomorrow."
"Don't worry," Su Qian said, "I'll take care of it. But... do you really want to do this kind of thing long-term? Rescuing people, fighting, buying weapons and medical equipment?"
Wang Zhengyang was silent for a few seconds, then said, "It's not that we want to, it's that the world forces us to. But since we've started, we should do our best."
Su Qian gave him a deep look, said nothing more, and turned to get into the car.
Li Ming's car disappeared into the night after the rain.
Only Wang Zhengyang, Lin Luoer, and Peter, who had just undergone surgery, remained in the factory. Lin Luoer was organizing the medical equipment, but her movements were slow, and her eyes were unfocused.
"You did a great job," Wang Zhengyang said.
Lin Luo'er paused for a moment, then lowered her head: "I was just assisting Dr. Su, I didn't do anything."
"Not everyone can remain calm during that kind of surgery," Wang Zhengyang said. "You are excellent."
A blush crept across Lin Luo'er's face, but quickly disappeared. She looked up at Wang Zhengyang: "That girl... Natasha, is she important to you?"
This question came as a surprise. Wang Zhengyang paused for a few seconds, then said, "She is Andrei's daughter. Andrei's team is very important to us."
"Is that all?" Lin Luo'er's voice was very soft, with a slight, almost imperceptible tremor.
Wang Zhengyang looked at her and noticed the complex emotions in her eyes—not entirely jealousy, but more like a fear of unknown changes and an unease about the disruption of the existing balance. Moonlight streamed in through the broken skylight of the factory, casting a soft silver glow on her face.
He took a step closer and said softly, "I know what you're worried about. The addition of new members, the change in relationships, the uncertainty of the future."
Lin Luo'er lowered her head, her fingers unconsciously twisting the strap of the medical kit: "I'm afraid all of this is too beautiful. Such a great team, such meaningful work, and you... who make me feel at ease. I always feel that beautiful things are especially fragile, especially easy to break. Like delicate glassware, they will shatter with the slightest touch."
Wang Zhengyang gently pulled her into his arms: "It won't break. I will protect all of this, by any means necessary."
The hug was warm. Lin Luo'er's body stiffened at first, but quickly softened. She buried her face in his chest, breathing in the scent of engine oil, metal, and disinfectant emanating from him. Wang Zhengyang could feel her heartbeat, the temperature of her body, and something deeper—a trust, a dependence, an emotional connection that had grown naturally after they had shared life and death, surgery, and rescue.
The abandoned auto repair shop was empty and silent, with only Peter's steady breathing coming from the monitor. Moonlight streamed in through the broken windows, spreading a silvery white across the ground. In the distance, the occasional rumble of a train passing by could be heard—freight trains speeding along the tracks at night.
Lin Luo'er raised her head. The moonlight illuminated her face, reflecting tiny glimmers in her eyes. Her lips parted slightly, and her breathing became somewhat rapid.
Wang Zhengyang lowered his head and kissed her.
The kiss began gently, just a touch of lips, but it quickly deepened. Lin Luo'er's arms encircled his neck, her fingers threading through the hair at the back of his head. Her response was proactive and passionate, carrying a release of long-suppressed emotions. After tonight's tense surgery and dangerous transfer, this kiss felt like an outlet for pent-up feelings, a ritual to confirm their existence.
As their lips and tongues intertwined, Wang Zhengyang could feel Lin Luo'er's body trembling slightly and hear her breathing gradually becoming heavier. His hand slowly moved up her back, stroking her slender spine and feeling the curves of her body beneath her thin coat. Lin Luo'er did not resist; instead, she pressed herself even closer to him, with almost no space between their bodies.
But Wang Zhengyang stopped.
He slowly ended the lingering kiss, simply placing his palm flat on her back and pulling her into his arms. Lin Luo'er looked up, her eyes hazy and confused, a blush of passion on her face.
Wang Zhengyang kissed her forehead again, then took her hand and placed her palm against his chest.
"Luo'er, can you feel my heartbeat?" he asked.
"Um."
"It's beating for you," Wang Zhengyang said earnestly, "but now is not the time. Peter needs to be moved, the cleaning team might be nearby, and we must stay alert."
Lin Luo'er's eyes reddened slightly. She nodded, buried her face in his chest again, and said in a choked voice, "I know. I'm just... a little afraid of losing everything I have now."
"You won't lose her." Wang Zhengyang hugged her tightly. "Everything will be alright."
They stood there, embracing, for a long time in the empty repair shop. The moonlight outside the window moved slowly, from the ground to the walls. In the distance, the sound of a train whistle came again, this time closer.
Wang Zhengyang checked the time: "Twenty minutes left. We need to prepare to move Peter."
Lin Luo'er stepped away from his embrace, wiped her eyes, and nodded: "I'll go check the monitoring equipment and the mobile stretcher."
She turned and walked towards Peter, her movements regaining their usual professionalism and efficiency. Wang Zhengyang watched her, a complex mix of emotions welling up inside him. In this chaotic world, on this perilous rainy night in Berlin, to have someone who trusted him, supported him, and fought alongside him was a rare stroke of luck.
He understood Lin Luo'er's unease. Natasha's appearance, Andrei's team's arrival, Su Qian's involvement, the procurement of medical pods... all of these were indeed changing the ecosystem inside the train. But these were risks that had to be taken.
Because the fortress of loneliness will eventually be breached.
Only through unity can we survive in the end times.
Wang Zhengyang walked to Peter's side and, together with Lin Luoer, checked the transfer preparations. Peter's vital signs were stable, and the surgery was a success. The 300,000 euro investment in the medical pod was worthwhile—there would be more wounded and more people in need of treatment in the future.
Money wasn't the issue. The cash they received from Zhang Yiqiang was enough to cover the medical pods, with some left over. The real question was whether they could build a shelter large enough to protect even more people in this increasingly dangerous world.
Wang Zhengyang closed his eyes, feeling the growing power within his body.
A mechanical affinity of 0.65% is not enough, but it is a good start.
Twenty minutes later, he and Lin Luo'er will take Peter back to the train.
Tomorrow, Su Qian will order that medical pod.
Three days later, they will have a mobile field hospital.
Nobody knows what the future holds.
But at least they are preparing.
In this rainy Berlin night, preparation is the greatest hope.
There are ten days left until the end of the world.
Five days remain until the Longyuan ship's refit is completed.
